SprachCafé Polnisch e.V. is a non-profit meeting place for culture, language and business, with activities in PankowSchöneberg und Köpenick.

We build bridges between cultures, languages and generations to create a more compassionate, understanding community – a place where everyone feels at home.

With Polish flair and an open heart, we organise workshops, cultural events and community initiatives that bring together old and new Berliners, and friends from all backgrounds.

Our story began in a Pankow kindergarten in 2008.

A new girl, Miriam, had just arrived and her teacher noticed that she was struggling to settle in. Starting a new school is never easy, especially when the language isn’t your native one. For Polish-speaking Miriam, German was unfamiliar and overwhelming.

Two mothers in the class, Agata and Marta recognised the feeling immediately. Their own children were navigating life between languages, too. Wanting to support Miriam, they began organising bilingual activities in the classroom: games, rhymes, fairy tales, crafts, and even cooking (Maultaschen with strawberries!).

What began as a few activities soon became something more. The children connected, parents gathered and a sense of belonging started to grow. Without planning it, Agata and Marta had created a mini model of a multilingual community.

That spark became SprachCafé Polnisch.
